Havering Adult Languages

Havering Adult College has been up and running since 1970 and we are proud of the wide range of languages and courses that we offer.

The courses range from complete beginners to advanced conversation to provide routes of progression to our learners.

Most courses are accredited by NOCN (National Open College Network). There is no examination at the end – the tutor will assess your progress continuously and provide any additional support required to achieve your personalised learning outcomes. The college does offer classes with no accreditation, but the way we are funded means that fees are cheaper for accredited courses, which is why we offer more of them.

Within the Borough, we ensure that our courses take place at various centres and at different times to give potential learners maximum choice and opportunity.

In addition, we also run Family Learning courses where parents can experience the joy of learning together with their children.

Languages for Primary School Teachers and Support Staff to equip the teachers in the primary sector, with basic language skills and language teaching techniques.

The short Holiday courses will give some tips and a quick introduction to the language needed when on holiday. We also design and deliver tailor-made programmed for Businesses.

Our Conversation classes are divided in two levels: Intermediate and Advanced. You must have completed 4 years of study to join. These non-accredited language classes offer the opportunity to personalise your studies. You will have the chance to practice your language skills in a class at the same level with other learners and be able to cover whichever topics you prefer, through negotiation with the tutor, and progress only when you feel ready.

On our One day courses you will be totally immersed in a different world, surrounded by pictures, short films, and music, as well as obviously learning a few sentences and words in the target language. All your senses will be stimulated as you will also taste different foods and drinks from the country. This is a great chance to experience a one day trip whilst staying in the UK!
